Hippo Noodle House

Photography / Styling / Print

This project is a development of an elevated visual narrative for a local Vietnamese restaurant, focusing on vibrant food styling and modern menu aesthetics. The photography and styling features a visual feast of star dishes from their menu, made to be used across socials and print formats.

The poster designs feature bright and fun typography, positioning the business brand as modern, approachable and established. This was important because their main customer market and passer-bys are made up of both Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese people looking to enjoy a scrumptious and elevated home-y Vietnamese meal. Lots of families and young adults live around the area, meaning the typography and imagery needed to be accessible, friendly-looking and appetising.

Props you would find in a home kitchen were used in the styling, with inclusion of lots of natural ingredients to express colourful flavours with a rustic charm. Experimentation with handdrawn type as well as type on paths contributed to playful and expressive poster options that convey the dynamism of the flavours. Both Vietnamese and non-Vietnamese customers were considered, hence the emphasis on Vietnamese wording with English translations.
